STANDARDS AND APPROVALS FOR MOTORBIKE EQUIPMENT
BERING, the brand that protects all riders: our sole aim is to combine the highest level of safety with comfort of use to free the rider's mind.
A high level of security requirements
The protective equipment marketed by BERING is conceived, designed and developed in France (Europe). The range is designed to meet the needs of a very broad clientele of amateurs and professionals.
BERING has equipped MotoGP and endurance motorcycle racers. The exacting standards and rigorous design of our equipment are identical, whatever the product our teams are working on.
All our equipment is CE marked to ensure optimum protection for riders.
We test our products in in-house laboratories to ensure compliance with safety requirements, then once our products are complete, we launch a series of tests carried out by certified laboratories.
European regulation EU2016/425 governs Personal Protective Equipment and in particular equipment for motorcyclists.
All sports and practices that are extreme or may be subject to risk have their own PPE (skiing, cycling, firefighting...).
It indicates that all products that suggest they offer protection must actually be protective, and thus meet certain requirements.
This certification is obtained through the validation of various tests (chemical, ergonomic, mechanical, etc.) carried out by an approved European inspection body.
To recognize a product that meets this requirement, you can find the following logo on our products.
There are 4 European standards for motorcycle equipment:
- EN 17092 for Clothing
- EN 13594 for Gloves
- EN 13634 for footwear
- EN 1621 for protectors
To sum up, we can say that CE marked equipment has all the features required to guarantee the safety of the 2 or 3-wheeler user in the event of a fall.
On the other hand, we cannot guarantee that our equipment, even if certified, will protect you from any damage that may be caused by a fall or an accident.
EN 17092
Standard EN 17092:2020 sets out the safety requirements for protective clothing worn by motorcyclists.
It defines tests and performance criteria for abrasion resistance, impact resistance, tear resistance, seam strength, safety, location of protectors, dimensional stability and ergonomics.
Based on their performance in terms of seam strength, abrasion resistance and tear resistance, garments are divided into different performance classes ranging from C to AAA.
EN 13594
Adopted in July 2015, EN 13594:2015 applies to gloves, made compulsory for motorcyclists and their passengers by Article R431-1-1 of the French Traffic Regulations.
EN 13594 sets out safety requirements for gloves in terms of size, ergonomics, safety, impact protection, abrasion resistance, tear resistance and seam strength.
Its aim is to protect motorcyclists' hands when riding.
EN 13634
Standard EN 13634 sets out the safety requirements for protective boots worn by motorcyclists.
It specifies tests and performance criteria for grip strength, safety, impact abrasion resistance, impact cut resistance, tear resistance as well as ergonomics, abrasion resistance and impact resistance.
Its aim is to provide adequate protection for motorcyclists' feet and ankles when riding.
EN 1621
EN 1621 defines the safety requirements for body protectors worn by motorcyclists, such as elbow pads, shoulder and knee protectors compulsory for EN 17092-certified products, as well as back and hip protectors.
It specifies tests and performance criteria for shock absorption, penetration resistance and comfort.
It establishes two levels of performance (only for back protectors): level 1 and level 2.
Compliance with this standard guarantees enhanced protection when riding a motorbike.
EN 17353
The EN 17353 standard specifies the visibility requirements for enhanced visualization equipment for moderate risk situations.
BERING has incorporated the EN 17353 standard to make users more visible in situations of limited visibility.
DiscoverTHE ROAD TO PRODUCT APPROVAL
All our tests are carried out by accredited laboratories.
By using these service providers, we can be sure that we're offering our end customers genuine personal protective equipment.
This is the clear path that a product follows from its conception to its arrival at your dealer's. Every year more than 100 new products are tested and certified.
How do you know if your equipment is approved ?
Standard EN 17092 requires a pictogram on the composition label. Generally located inside the equipment, it includes the motorcyclist pictogram and the protection level class.
Standards EN 13594, EN 13634 and EN 1621 incorporate other information relating to the characteristics of the equipment itself or the presence or absence of protection.
To sum up, we can say that equipment certified to one of the above standards has all the characteristics required to guarantee the safety of the user of a 2 or 3-wheeler in the event of a fall/use.
BERING's aim is never to compromise between the richness of our technical expertise and the design of our products.
